FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
About our period panties
About our underwear
How many pairs of underwear do I need to get through the entire duration of my period?
If, for example, you want to wear your slip only at night and wash it every day, one slip may be enough for your entire cycle: you wash it in the morning and wear it again in the evening. However, if you plan to wear your slips day and night and want to wash them all at once at the end of your cycle, you will need between 8 and 10 slips depending on the length of your period. And if you are planning more of an intermediate use and intend to wash at least one load in the middle of the cycle, 4 to 5 slips will suffice.

Why is the use of Sisters Republic menstrual pants cheaper than the use of periodic pads?
A woman goes through an average of 450 menstrual cycles in her lifetime and will spend €8,000 on menstrual products from puberty to menopause (according to a study by the Huffington Post), so this budget is anything but insignificant for women. The Sisters Republic Slips can help you reduce these costs: When you buy a pack of 7 slips, your Sisters Republic Slip costs only €25.60 and lasts 4 to 5 years. No more spending €4 to €5 on tampons and pads that are thrown away every month! And it also means less waste for our beautiful planet. The Sisters Republic Slips are therefore economically and ecologically sensible.

Can I also wear my Sister Republic Slip while exercising?
Yes, your Sisters Republic Slip is ideal for protecting you during sports, because unlike pads that can slip or fold, the slip and the absorbent part integrated in it always stay in place. All our models are perfect for sports, but we particularly recommend the Boxershorts for sports, as they fit very snugly and move perfectly with every one of your movements without shifting.

Do I need to use one or more slips per day?
If you use the Sisters Republic Slips that are tailored to your flow (the "Light" product line for light flow, "Medium" for medium flow, or "Super" for heavy flow), you can wear the slips for up to 12 hours and then switch them out for the night or use other pads. However, if you use the "Light" absorption slips with medium or heavy flow, or the "Medium" absorption slips with heavy flow, you should change the slips after 3 to 6 hours to ensure a "dry" feeling.
The table below shows the number of hours you should wear your slip with maximum comfort, but it's best to rely on your feeling and change the slip as soon as you start to feel slightly damp.
If you have a very heavy flow, we recommend that you do not use our menstrual panties alone, but as a supplement to other period products.

How long can I wait to wash my Sisters Republic slip after rinsing?
If you should rinse your periodic slip with cold water immediately after taking it off (until the water runs clear), it is not important to wash it right away: you can easily wait for the next laundry, even if the slip has dried in the meantime.
And don't worry about the rest of your laundry, nothing will happen to it :)
How do I choose between the three absorption levels "Light", "Medium", and "Super"?
The absorption level "Light" can be used at the end of the menstruation or for those who really have a very light flow, such as with some hormonal IUDs or pills. The absorption level "Medium" is ideal for the second or third day of the period and offers an ideal compromise between absorption capacity and thinness of the pad. Finally, the absorption level "Super" is ideal for the beginning of the period, for the night, or for women who have a heavy flow throughout their period. The thickness of the pad is somewhat thicker (but still much thinner than a sanitary pad, as it is less than 3 mm), but the absorbency is then at its highest. In summary, it can be worthwhile to have all absorption strengths to cover all moments of your flow.
"Can I use a Sisters Republic slip in advance of my period or even until the onset of my first period?"
Yes, of course, the menstrual panties from Sisters Republic are beautiful, comfortable to wear, and very thin, between 1.5 and 3 mm (not comparable to the thickness of a pad). You can wear them as often as you want without having to worry that they will be uncomfortable or that your period panties will show under tight clothing. This way, you can prepare for your period and avoid any unpleasant surprises.
Can I go swimming with my absorbent Sisters Republic slip?
"It is better not to bathe with a Sisters Republic slip, as these menstrual slips are not designed for that and we cannot guarantee that our absorption technology works underwater."

Is the absorbent part of the slip high enough?
The absorbent part of our slips is not only located in the crotch but is also very high at the front and back to maximize absorbency and prevent leakage.
- For the bikini model "Sidonie": The absorbent part extends to the upper end of the back of the briefs and to the upper end of the front of the briefs.-
- For the bikini model "Undertaking": The absorbent part extends to the upper end of the back of the briefs and to the upper end of the front of the briefs. For the panty models "Colette", "Under maintenance", "Tonight" and "Do not enter": The absorbent part extends to the upper end of the back of the panty and 18 cm high on the front (in size M)
-** For the boxer model "Ginger"**: The absorbent part extends to the upper end of the back of the panties and 15 cm high on the front (in size M).
Can the slip absorb blood clots that may sometimes be present in the blood?
Can I use a Sisters Republic slip if I plan to do postpartum recovery after giving birth?
Can I use a Sisters Republic slip if I plan to do postpartum recovery after giving birth?
Yes, the menstrual panties from Sisters Republic can help you with recovery after pregnancy. However, since every woman is different and the flow during this time is particularly strong, we recommend using only the absorption level "Super" from our range and using our slips in the first days after birth only as reinforcement - in addition to other period products. This way, you have really optimal leak protection with your Sisters Republic slips during this somewhat delicate time and can then use them alone during your next "normal" period.
How much river can a Sisters Republic Saughöschen hold at most?
No matter which model you choose, if you select the absorption level "Super" for your Sisters Republic menstrual pants, it absorbs up to 20 ml - which is the amount that 3 tampons can hold - and provides up to 12 hours of comfort when your menstrual flow is medium!
"Do I use my absorbent Sisters Republic slips instead of or in addition to my usual pads?"
Both uses are possible. If your flow is really very heavy on some days - for example, at the beginning of your period - and you often have accidents (leaks and stains) with your other products (tampons, pads, cup...), it is advisable to use the Sisters Republic slips as reinforcement for your other products. This way, you have a 100% leak-proof guarantee and can finally feel secure at any time during your cycle.
If you do not have particularly heavy discharge, you can certainly use the Sisters Republic Slips as a substitute for your other periodic pads. However, choose the absorption level of your slips ("Light", "Medium", "Super") according to your current discharge (light, medium, heavy) and adhere to the application times specified below or, even better, rely on your feeling and change the slips as soon as you start to feel a slight moisture.
Are the Sisters Republic Slips suitable if I am prone to fungal infections, allergies, or other irritations?
"If you are prone to fungal infections, allergies, or other irritations, the menstrual underwear is certainly the most suitable periodic protection for you, as it is not intrusive and does not irritate."
"Moreover, there is no friction like with pads, and the part that comes into contact with the mucous membrane is made of cotton, while the main component of pads is made of plastic."
Can I wash my Sisters Republic slip with the rest of the laundry without it getting stains?
Yes, it is no problem to wash your laundry with your Sisters Republic menstrual pants. However, do not forget to rinse them immediately after taking them off and before washing them in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry in cold water (until the water runs clear).
Why is using a periodic Sisters Republic Slip more comfortable and safer for my health?
The period pants are primarily underwear, so they are not invasive like tampons or the menstrual cup, which can sometimes be irritating.
Unlike tampons and cups, it allows the blood to flow out naturally, preventing blood from pooling in the vagina, which creates a favorable environment for the proliferation of the bacteria that cause Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).
"In addition, the periodic protection of the menstrual slip is integrated into the slip, so that the slip cannot slip and is neither disturbing nor uncomfortable in contact with the skin, as can be the case with a pad that can slip, crease, or retain moisture on the surface. Finally, the slips from Sisters Republic are made from fabrics that are certified according to Öko-Tex Standard 100."
This means that our slips are guaranteed to be free from any harmful substances for the body and the environment. In particular, they are not treated with silver nanoparticles, like some other absorbent panties on the market.
Should I wash my underwear before the first use to maximize absorption?
"You should wash your Sisters Republic slip before each use, because like any absorbent fabric, it is most effective after the first wash."
Why is the use of Sisters Republic Saughöschen sensible for the environment?
A Sisters Republic Slip can be used for 5 to 7 years, while a woman will use between 10,000 and 15,000 tampons and pads over her lifetime, which amounts to about 100 billion disposable worldwide.
"Menstrual protection devices per year corresponds to (Source: The Telegraph)."
"The bill for the planet is therefore quickly made! Especially when you consider that a tampon takes 6 months to biodegrade, and that pads and applicators can sit in landfills for centuries!"

Can you use only super absorbent panties throughout your entire cycle and also at the end of your period?
Yes, you can definitely use Sisters Republic Slips with super absorption throughout your entire cycle, even if your discharge is very light, because those who can do more can also do less. We offer three different absorbencies, as the thickness of the gusset is thinner with a lighter absorbency, which might be interesting for some women. But anyway, the maximum absorbency is only 3 mm thick (half as thick as a pad with the same absorbency), so you don't feel them at all when wearing.
What happens if I accidentally put my underwear in the dryer?
If you have only dried your underwear in the dryer once, it shouldn't have a major impact (it also depends on the heat of the selected program).
About the Rules
What should you eat during your period?
If you, like 80% of women, have a painful period (headaches, abdominal or chest pain...), you should know that these symptoms are the result of inflammation related to a substance called C-reactive protein, which is present in excessive amounts in the body at this time.
If you prefer a diet with anti-inflammatory properties that includes fiber and omega-3 fatty acids such as fatty fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring), rapeseed oil, or walnut oil, you can reduce the symptoms. Women at risk for anemia should consume iron-rich foods (red meat, poultry, organ meats, fish and seafood, cumin...) during this time.
What is menstrual blood made of? Why is it sometimes darker than normal blood?
Menstrual blood consists of lymph, water, red blood cells, and cells from the endometrium (uterine lining), so it is essentially simple blood. If the blood is sometimes a bit darker at the end of the cycle, it is because it took longer to leave the uterus. The longer it stays in the body, the darker it can become.
Is it normal to have a heavy or painful period?
"If you have a really strong and/or very painful period, it may be necessary to see a gynecologist, as this can be a sign of a dysfunction or a condition such as endometriosis. The uterine contractions triggered during menstruation are often painful, but if it gets to the point where you can no longer get up during this time, you should see a doctor."
How much does a woman spend on average in her entire life for her period?
According to a study by the Huffington Post, a woman would spend an average of €8,000 on period hygiene products throughout her life, which includes about 450 menstrual cycles and spans from puberty to menopause. This budget is therefore far from negligible for women.
Sisters Republic panties can help you reduce these costs: if you buy them in a pack, your Sisters Republic panty can cost you only €25.60 and will last 4 to 5 years or even much longer if you take good care of it. No more €4 to €5 for tampons, sanitary pads, and other disposable panty liners thrown in the trash every month! And that's also that much less waste for our beautiful planet. Sisters Republic panties are therefore economical and ecological.

Can you get pregnant during your period?
"It is amazing, but the answer is: Yes! The probability is very low, but it exists. Some cycles are very short, sometimes even just 21 days, and therefore ovulation occurs earlier. Since it is known that sperm can fertilize for 2 to 5 days after unprotected intercourse, it is clear: Yes, you can actually get pregnant during your period."
What are the environmental impacts of hygiene products worldwide?
"Approximately 100 billion menstrual products are disposed of worldwide each year (Source: The Telegraph). Considering that a tampon takes six months to decompose biologically, and that pads and applicators can sit in landfills for centuries, it becomes clear how urgent it is to introduce washable and reusable menstrual protection devices like menstrual underwear."
