What is menstrual blood made of? Why is it sometimes darker than normal blood?
Menstrual blood consists of lymph, water, red blood cells, and endometrial cells (uterine lining), so it is simply blood. If the blood sometimes looks a bit browner towards the end of the cycle, it is because it took a while for this blood to exit the uterus. The longer it stays in the body, the darker its color becomes.
